Several World Cup news items have come out of the last six months, including the announcement that Qatar will be the host of the 2022 World Cup. It’s the second time Asia will host the tournament, after 2002 in South Korea. It’s also the first to be held in an Arab country.
The World Cup is an international association football tournament. It’s been held in 92 countries since 1930. Since 1930, the most recent tournament to take place in autumn was the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.
The 2022 World Cup is set to begin on November 21 and run through to December 18. The tournament is based on eight groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout stages. The knockout stage will be the tougher of the two stages.
The 2022 World Cup will take place in the Middle East for the first time, although only two countries are Arab. The draw for the tournament has already taken place. The finalists will be crowned in December. The final will take place at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
The tournament will feature 32 teams, which are split into eight groups of four. Each group will have four matches played each day. The first two matches of the group stage will take place at 1pm and 4pm, with the last two games kicking off at 7pm and 6pm.
The tournament will also feature a dance music festival, which borrows from the Glastonbury music festival in England.
